The Little Prince

The SS22 collection is inspired by and named after a book called The Little Prince – a French novella written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It was first published in English and French in the US in April 1943, and in France following the liberation of France as Saint-Exupéry’s works had been banned by the Vichy Regime.

The story follows a young prince who visits various planets in space, including Earth, and addresses themes of loneliness, friendship, love, and loss. Just like the Little Prince visits different planets and gets to meet all sorts of different characters this collection takes you on a similar journey of exploration.

Throughout the collection we get to meet several different characters, like the Pilot whose plane crashed and his suit got all messed up. The Business man all caught up in counting all the stars they own not realising half of  their blazer has flown over their shoulder. The Fox in her dress that got all shredded after being caught in bushes and fences when hunting for chickens. Then we have the Tippler in his oversized coat with long slashed seams or the Rose in her ribbon dress.

All these different characters explore different design approaches and textile manipulations. The collection as a whole reminds of a mosaic that’s been composed of combining Kubisz’s traditional suit deconstruction and tactile textile handwork with more bold, minimal, oversized silhouettes.
